SUMMARY of the HISTORY
of the KELLY FAMILY
The Kelly family has been a branch of the family that has been hard to trace. The Kelly name is a common name and is spelled one of two ways, "Kelly" or "Kelley". A number of Kelly families are located in the cities of interest and, therefore, it is hard to put them together.
Wilbert Kelly, nephew of Lyda (Kelly) McClane, has the McClane family bible but the names and dates are not referenced to type of relative, son, daughter, etc. The bible also is not in good condition.
Kelly is an English or Scottish name meaning "one who came from kelly (holly or woods)" or "a dweller in a grove".
Eliza Ann Rutter was born August 19, 1819, near Baltimore, Maryland, the daughter of Charles and Sarah Rutter. At the time of their marriage Lorenzo Kelly would have been about 28 years old and Eliza Ann would have been almost 25 years old.
The following Kellys were known to be living in the Morgan County, Ohio, area about this time but a direct relationship has not been found at this time.
